Tynan's First Christmas

12.25.08

This is so stinking cute! Tynan got clothes, a Fisher Price pelican, a teething ring, and a teddy bear that is bigger than he is! He probably had the most fun with the wrapping paper though. That's how it always is, right?

Rap Star?

12.21.08

I call this outfit Tynan's rap star suit. Shawn said we should put a bunch of gold chains on him and a ballcap turned sideways. Wonder if anyone sells grills for kids with no teeth?

Waterfall Soother

12.18.08

I got in a little bit of trouble for ordering this waterfall soother off the internet (partly because it was not the only thing I ordered!) but Tynan loves it! Several times we have put him down and turned it on and it has helped sooth him to sleep. It moves, lights up, and plays sleepy time music and Tynan loves to watch it - when he is in the right mood. I set him down for a minute to wash my hands and turned it on and had to grab the camera when I came back!

Uh Oh

12.14.08

Tynan is usually pretty content when we put him on the floor. If we put him on his tummy, he reaches for his toys and kicks his little feet and picks up his chest. If we put him on his back, we make sure he has room to roll to his right (cause he still doesn't roll to the left) and he rolls to his tummy pretty quickly and then hangs out there for a while.

Until now!!! I just happened to be recording when he did this! I think this time was sort of an accident, but he liked it so much he kept on doing it. (Although he probably also liked the way mommy cheered him on. . . What have I done?) So if he's suddenly twice as mobile, and he's at the stage where he puts everything into his mouth, we definitely have a bit of a problem on our hands. . .

Five Months

12.10.08
Tynan is five months old today! I can't believe the changes! He is starting to scoot around a bit on his tummy. Last week he rolled off the Boppy and thought it was hilarious (I about had a heart attack though!). He has been sleeping well most nights except for when his teeth wake him. His little gums are swollen around where the two front bottom teeth will be, worse on the right. He chomps on everything he can get his hands on, and if he can't grab anything he'll just chomp on his hands! He is also developing more personality every day. I still can't believe my little guy is getting less little so fast!

Visit with Christy

11.30.08
Tynan and I stopped by for a quick visit at Christy's house, where Christy's roommate got Ty to copy his arm motions (he was celebrating a touchdown). For some weird reason, my camera was in my purse, so I decided to take a picture (I didn't get Tynan's victory arms though, darnit).

Super Sweet Guitar Shoes!

12.6.08

A lady who works in the department next to mine brought her son in one day, and he was wearing these super awesome guitar shoes. I did a little online investigating and found the shoes on babycenter.com's store website and decided that, even if I was a great big copycat, I had to buy them for Tynan. And then, even though he does not need shoes, seeing as how he does not walk, I had to put them on him. (They actually held his socks on, so they really do have a purpose even at this early date!) And then, of course, I had to take a picture! He must have his mommy's feet though; he needs shoes in extra wide sizes. . .

Tynan and Santa

11.29.08
We went to the mall for Tynan's first Santa picture. We didn't have to wait in line, which was nice and surprising for a Saturday. Also, they let us take our own pictures with our own cameras! I just happened to have mine in my purse. . . Apparently I am kind of a picture-taking fiend, or so people tell me. . . Tynan asked Santa for an end to teething pain!

Thansgiving Weekend

11.28-11.29.08

Here is Tynan getting lovings from Grandma Wendy. He is wearing his supercute "Grandma's Prince Charming" onesie. We went home for a quick visit after I got off work on Thanksgiving, and both our families were nice enough to have second Thanksgiving dinners with us. Thanks for the tasty food everyone! And, of course, for the nice visiting time!

Visit with Rich

11.28.08
Tynan and I got to visit with Rich for a few minutes on Black Friday. We didn't get a chance to see Sue or any of the kids but our trip was just a last minute overnight thing and Rich only got about thirty minutes warning. That is okay, though, we're pretty sure we'll be back for Christmas!

Thanksgiving

11.27.08
Here is Tynan eating solid food on his first Thanksgiving! He ate about a teaspoon of rice cereal. Everyone try not to be jealous of this fine dining experience! This makes me think of Thanksgiving last year. Shawn was in Wisconsin deer hunting with his grandfather and I made a quick trip home to eat Thanksgiving dinner at my mom's house. On the drive back, I had to stop at reststops three times!! The next day, I bought a pregnancy test and found out (on Black Friday, ha ha ha!) that Tynan was going to be joining our family. Hard to believe it was only a year ago!

Thank you Teresa!

To Tessie-
I don't have your current address anymore, so I have not been able to send you a thank you card for the bathrobe and toy keys that you gave to Tynan. Then it occurred to me - I could do a cyber thank you! Here is a picture of Tynan with his keys, and you can see the bathrobe in the post before the post before this one. He has just started to grab toys to put them in his mouth (he used to only grab and chew on blankets) so his keys came in handy today! Thanks again for the thoughtful gifts! We hope to see you next week or maybe the following month when we are in town :-)

Tynan Tasting

11.22.08

Tynan tried some rice cereal today! This is actually the second time he has tried it. The first time, earlier this week, Shawn tried to give him some cereal when I was at work. So I wasn't able to get any pictures of Tynan's first taste of real food! I told Shawn he was in trouble. Tynan didn't eat any of the cereal then (he spit it back out then turned away), so this is technically the first time eating solid food, but I'm definitely not letting Shawn off the hook for a while!

Visit from Grandma Wendy and Aunt Nikki

Grandma Wendy and Aunt Nikki came for a quick weekend visit.

They showered Ty with hugs and kisses. Thanks again for coming!

Wildlife Adventure

11.21.08
Tynan is quite the traveler! Here he is in Africa.
Followed quickly by a trip north!
(Okay, maybe we were at Cabela's to buy Daddy a belt. . . We're not telling.)
All that traveling tuckered Tynan out!

Silly

11.21.08

Well, last night I put Tynan into his crib on his back, and he was still on his back when I woke up and checked on him. Even though Ty is sleeping through most nights for about 8 hours at a time, I still usually get up at least twice a night and look in on him. I'm getting better though; I used to get up 3 times every night. Anyway, I heard him cooing over the monitor after I got out of the shower, so I walked into his room. And there was little man, on his tummy, pressed against the opposite side of the crib!

We still haven't bought crib bumpers. I was reading in one of my baby books and it said to take the bumpers out of the crib at about 5 months, so I was thinking, why buy something I'll only use for a month? He doesn't seem to mind when parts are sticking out! :-)

Hats Entertainment

I made Tynan a hat on the Knifty Knitter loom, but it is a tad large. It kept falling down over his eyes. Whoops. . .

Room to grow, I guess!

Nose for Trouble

11.19.08

Tynan has a stuffy nose because of a cold. But to look at this picture, it seems like he would rather just not breathe than have his nose cleaned! We tried different toys, tickles, and locations, but he was just not having it.

He felt a little better once we put the nasal aspirator away!

Later he was feeling much better and gave Daddy his super-imp smile!

Quest for Pacifier

So all the books and articles I've read talk about ways to decrease the risk of that bad "S" word that all new parents worry about. Breastfeed, don't smoke, don't let baby sleep with any loose blankets or bedding, put baby back to sleep (hah!), don't overheat baby, etc. etc. Some new studies show that pacifier use seems to be associated with decreased risk of SIDS. Well, here are all of the pacifiers that Tynan has tried. . .

He has refused them all. He likes his great big mommy-shaped pacifier and will not accept substitutes. I guess I should feel flattered, but sometimes I just want to shower! Not to mention the fact that he no longer sleeps on his back. . .

So Much Quicker!

11.9.08

Tynan has gotten so much faster at rolling over! He still only rolls to the right from back to stomach, but he is practicing rolling to the left. He doesn't like to be on his back anymore, though, so he hasn't even tried rolling from front to back!

Practicing Sitting

11.9.08
.
Tynan and I were getting ready to go to the bookstore. I dressed him in the cute outfit from Aunt Surae, then sat him up with the Boppy while I got my coat and shoes. The pillow held him up pretty well from the back and sides, so he decided to tip forward instead. Tynan got two books at the bookstore and then fell asleep on the way home, so he hasn't been able to look at them yet! That is okay, I think I hear him stirring now.

Mommy's Little Monster

11.8.08

I bought this onesie when I was barely pregnant, and this is the first day Tynan wore it. For some reason, I had a feeling I was going to have a boy. I wish I had remembered it sooner, it would have been cute for Halloween too.

Later I put Ty in his activity center while I was doing laundry. This is the first week we have used it, and Ty loves being able to see the world from a new perspective. Look at that grin!

Yellow Jammies

11.8.08

Here is munchkin in his jammies, not long after I found him in his crib like this:

A couple of months ago, I couldn't keep him on his tummy for more than five minutes, no matter what I tried. And that was pushing it. Now I can't keep him off! This little boy could care less about the whole "Back to Sleep" campaign.

Pink Cheeks

11.7.08

Ty rolled onto his tummy during the night and then drooled all over the sheet. His cheek was a little irritated by the drool so it was rosy pink for several hours. It looked very sweet and cherubic, but smelled a little bit sour. He didn't seem to mind.

Tynan at Mommy's Work

11.6.08

Tynan came to work because everyone was yelling at me for not bringing him in. (Jeeze, people, I haven't slept more than four hours at a time since June! Ease up already!) Shawn had the day off so I made him follow me to work with Tynan. Tynan was super duper sweet and cute and people threatened to steal him. (They'll think twice when they're trying to get him to sleep through teething pain. . . ;-)

My Little Insomniac

11.5.08
.
Well here is Tynan this morning, after sleeping only about 7 hours total all night (definitely not all at once, either) about 15 minutes after we had put him in his crib, sound asleep. When we put him down, he was wrapped in that star blanket and was parallel to the long axis of the crib. So the little squirmer woke up, got out of his blanket, pushed himself upwards and sideways, and got his feet out through the crib bars. Shouldn't his little growing body crave sleep? I know my body does, and I'm not growing! (Okay, I should say I'm not growing up, just out, darnit.) It seems like he goes through phases. For two or three days he won't sleep, will barely nap, and will have us pulling out our hair with entire matched baggage sets under our eyes. Then for the next two or three days, he'll nap constantly and sleep long hours at night, fooling us into thinking things might actually be settling into a pattern. Silly parents. Shouldn't we have learned better by now? -sigh-
.
Some people might wonder why we don't have the crib bumper up. "After all," you're thinking, "wouldn't that stop the cutest little squirmer ever from putting as many limbs as possible through the crib bars?" Well, the truth is, we don't have a crib bumper. I know, I know, we're so bad!!! But Tynan came three weeks early and we did not have a crib yet. We were going to put him in my sister-in-law's bassinet and hold off on the crib for a few months. Which would have been a fine plan, if Tynan had liked the bassinet at all. So for several months Tynan slept in the bassinet part of our Pack'n'Play. (You can see it in the post before this one.) But the little chunker has past the weight limit for the Pack'n'Play so we finally got the crib set up and the mattress bought and aired out and sheets bought and washed and isn't that enough? We're working on it, though, don't worry!

The reason I am not sleeping

11.2.08

I keep waking up at night and can't get back to sleep until after checking on Tynan. So I woke up after sleeping four hours and went to check on Tynan early this morning and this is what I found! He was on his tummy with his right arm pinned underneath him and his little neck twisted as far as it could go to the right, with his nose pressed up against the mattress. So not only did he look totally uncomfortable, he was also not sleeping on his back. And his nose was pressed up against the mattress!! I tried to put him back on his back. . . He is a stubborn little guy. So then I couldn't get back to sleep. He slept an almost seven hour stretch last night and I slept only four. If I won the lottery or something, I'd pay someone to watch Ty sleep so that I could finally get some sleep myself. Only I'd probably get up to make sure the person was still awake and actually watching Tynan. . .

Tynan's pediatrician's nurse said I should just have another baby. I guess parents are more relaxed the second time around? I've heard some say that they put Baby #2 down lovingly in the crib, then shut the door and don't come back till morning. I would probably just worry twice as much!

Tynan and his Ducky

I am laughing so loud in this video that you can hardly hear Ty laughing. I can't help it though, he's just so cute! He kept sliding down on the pillow so he doesn't look very comfortable, poor guy.

Whoah scary Halloween!

This is Tynan on Halloween in his "Mummy" shirt. The camera flash gave him super red eye, but I left it to add to the spirit of the day. We didn't go anywhere or pass out any candy. We just stayed home and had a nice day together. That is, it was a nice day, until some crazy lady pulled out her camera. . .

Bath Time

10.24.08

The last time I put Tynan into his tub he laughed for the first time. So tonight, I got all geared up and got the camera ready to capture another laugh but. . . no go. Why don't kids do exactly what we want them to? You'd think they had minds of their own or something! We still had a good time getting clean.

Twisty Tynan

I didn't realize this video was so dark! But this is more of Tynan trying to turn onto his tummy but still getting hung up on his arm. (He moved his arm and finished the turn when I did not have the camera going, of course!) Today while he was napping he rolled onto his tummy in the bassinet. I can foresee troubles with this newfound mobility. . .

Happy smile

10.17.08
Tynan has been sticking his tongue out a lot. Little imp!

Tynan rolled over today!

10.17.08

Not long after this video, I brought Tynan into the computer room and set him on his back on a blanket. Then I hooked up the camera to the computer. While I was copying pictures, Tynan rolled onto his side again. Then he moved his arm and turned all the way onto his tummy, and I couldn't tape it cause the camera was still hooked up to the computer!!! I was able to get an "after" picture at least:

Guess I can only transfer pictures when Tynan is sleeping!

The remote control

10.13.08

Daddy gave Tynan an accessory that every three-month-old needs. . .

Tynan looks so sweet in his "D is for Dinosaur" jammies! We got so many clothes as gifts and from my mom that I'm not actually sure where they came from, but I love them.

Tynan having some Nakey Time

I read somewhere that babies seem to do better with tummy time if they are naked. So before I put Ty in his jams, I put him on his tummy in his diaper (he doesn't really like tummy time - his doctor says reflux babies usually don't). He kicked so hard while he was on his tummy that he moved forward an inch or so! But then he got frustrated, so I turned him to his back for some quality video-taking time.

Grandma Doreen and Tynan

This smile is so sweet! Grandma Doreen is holding Tynan in this video. I had been having a hard time catching a smile on the video - he seems to have a knack for smiling only when the camera is not recording - so I was pretty happy to get it.

Tynan reaching!

10.10.08

My mom told me that Tynan would do things that would amaze me. I put him down for some tummy time on the Boppy pillow and saw him going for his monkey rattle like nobody's business. After being overwhelmed with amazement and several other happy-type feelings, I grabbed the camera and managed to document it too! Soon after this video, Tynan fell asleep on the Boppy. He looked so cute that I reached for the camera again, but the sound it makes when it turns on made him open one eye for the picture. And that's the story behind the picture that is currently at the top of this blog :-)
